about Tails by The Wayside

For nearly 19 years, Heather Clement has been caring for pets at her home — the historic Adam Howe Jr. House — in Sudbury, MA. What started as generously caring for her friends’ animals while they traveled, turned into Tails by the Wayside, a licensed, full-service pet care and boarding business. Heather has grown her business primarily through her clients' positive word-of-mouth referrals, including one pet owner who referred to Tails by the Wayside as "Disney for Doggies."

Why “Tails by the Wayside”? Storied New Englander Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the book of poems “Tales of a Wayside Inn” about guests at the fabled Wayside Inn — which, serendipitously, is just around the corner from Heather’s home.

Our Services

At Tails by the Wayside, Heather and her staff care for their clients' pets as if they were their own. Outside, dogs enjoy a recently renovated fenced area with grass, wood chips, and toys. Three indoor rooms  with  heated floors/air-conditioning allows for tired dogs to rest or play. Our guarantee: Your dog will leave Tails by the Wayside tired, happy, and well cared for.

Boarding

Heading on vacation? Tails by the Wayside offers year-round boarding for dogs, cats, or caged pets (including birds, bunnies, and guinea pigs). Drop Off and Pick Up times: 8 - 9 am / 4 - 6 pm daily, excluding Saturday evenings, when there is no drop off or pick up.

DAY CARE

Spending the day alone isn't an ideal situation for many pets. Tails by the Wayside offers day care services for pets while their owners are at work – or even if your pet simply needs some play time and socialization with other dogs. Drop Off: 8 - 9 am, Pick Up: 4 - 5 pm. *Please note there is no day care during July and August due to volume of boarding dogs.

Exit Baths

Dogs play hard at Tails by the Wayside. In addition to guaranteeing that your dog has had a wonderful time, we can also provide an exit bath for $30 so that your pet goes home clean after a long day – or week – of playing!
